South Dakota started to keep vital records in 1905. The WPA records list many earlier listings dated in 1905 which is not the actual date. The WPA records are listed in the South Dakota Genweb Archives. KCGS has walked through all the cemeteries and is in the process of creating a database with correct dates and later burials. We know that many burials occurred on orphan cemeteries or on farmsteads and some graves were moved. If you know any more of these places please share the information with KCGS so we can create a better database for you.
Several residents of Kingsbury County have donated boxes of obituaries. We have indexed them and continue to expand our database along with collecting current newspaper obituaries. We welcome copies of newspaper obituaries or funeral bulletins. We will search both of these databases for you. We can send you copies if you mail us a written request along with a self-addressed stamped envelope and a suggested donation of $5 per name. If you have any questions you can email kcgs@itctel.com.
